    Boys tennis roundup: Willmar finishes 0-2 at Becker – West Central Tribune


    BECKER — Daunte Castellano earned his first varsity win for the Willmar boys tennis team in its 4-3 non-conference loss at Moorhead on Friday.

    Castellano, a sophomore, beat the Spuds’ Ben Haveldine 6-1, 6-1.

    “He did well,” Willmar head coach Forrest Rice said. “He normally doesn’t play too much varsity and got a really good score, too.”

    Willmar plays Tuesday in Alexandria.

    Litchfield earned victories from Alex Draeger, Mason Woelfel and Garrison Jackman in singles and also won at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to hold off Foley at Litchfield.

    The Dragons’ No. 3 double victory was closed. Gray Nelson and Josh Blomberg beat Weston Harris and Max Chmielewski 7-5, 4-6, 10-4.

    Litchfield also almost won at No. 1 doubles. Braden Olson and Tyler Pennertz fell to the Falcons’ Carter Thell and Gavin Gross 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (6).

    Yellow Medicine East picked up a big road win at Osakis.

    The Sting earned victories at Nos. 2-4 singles and Nos. 2-3 doubles.

    Osakis’ Isaac Maddock, a junior who is ranked 10th in the state in Class A, beat YME’s Ean Clarke 6-1, 6-2.

    Jackson Torgerson, Ryan Syring and Derrick Lien all won at Nos. 2-4 singles for the Sting.

    “The boys played well,” YME head coach Jeff Lalim said.

    YME (6-5) plays Tuesday at Redwood Valley.
