Guro faces Castle for WBC Silver belt

FILIPINA warrior Norj Guro guns for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver atomweight belt against Brit Denise Castle on March 26 at the Habtoor Grand Resort in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Guro is coming off a long layoff after a unanimous decision win over Joan Ambalong on May 7, 2018 in Lala, Lanao del Norte.

Guro, however, won her last four fights beating Ambalong twice, Marichu Semillano and Umi Ishikawa. She defeated Ishikawa by unanimous decision to win the WBC ABC Continental atomweight belt.

The 31-year-old Guro is currently rated No. 11 by the WBC in the atomweight division.

Like Guro, Castle is also coming off a hiatus. She last fought on Dec. 26, 2019 and won a fifth round technical knockout against Sutthinee Bamrungpao in Thailand.

Castle challenged for the WBC female atomweight title twice. She challenged Momo Koseki in 2014 but lost via an eight round technical knockout. Her second attempt was in 2018, wherein she lost by unanimous decision to current champion Fabiana Bytyqi.

Castle started out her career in Muay Thai in 2005 before transitioning to boxing in 2014. She is a WBC minimumweight champion in Muay Thai.

Castle, however, is currently 50 years old, way past her prime, which could be an advantage for the much-younger Guro.

Guro is 11-7-1 with four knockouts, while Castle is 3-2 with three knockouts.
