    MHS, LHS go 2-1 at 7-on-7 state qualifying tournament


    The Legacy and Midland High football teams both went 2-1 in pool play during Saturday’s 7-on-7 State Qualifying Tournament at the Scharbauer Sports Complex.

    Both teams finished second in their respective pools and fell short of advancing to the qualifying round.

    The Bulldogs beat Pecos and defeated Lubbock Monterey to start the day before falling to El Paso Eastlake in the finale of Pool 3 play.

    The Rebels lost to Abilene Wylie 32-20 in their first game before bouncing back to defeat both Plainview and Lubbock High in Pool 2.

    Greenwood dropped a pair of games by a one-score margin to larger classification schools.


    Class 6A San Angelo Central defeated the Rangers 20-14 and Class 5A Division II program Abilene Cooper beat Greenwood 20-12 in Pool 4 play.

    The Rangers didn’t play their third game against Odessa Permian after the Panthers withdrew from the tournament.

    In the qualifying round, El Paso Eastwood defeated Abilene Wylie 35-32, and El Paso Eastlake defeated Abilene Cooper.

    Eastwood and Eastlake both earned spots in the 7-on-7 Division I State Tournament, June 24-25 in College Station.
