No. 11/12 Women’s Basketball outlasts Kansas State, 62-51

    MANHATTAN, Kan. Aliyah Matharu registered a game-high 16 points Wednesday evening as No. 11/12 Texas collected a 62-51 road victory over Kansas State inside the Wildcats’ Bramlage Coliseum.

    With the win, the Longhorns run their win streak to five game and improve to 20-6 overall on the season with a 10-5 mark in Big 12 competition and sweep the regular season series with K-State. The Wildcats slip to 18-9, 8-7 with the loss.

    Texas got off to a fast start as they built up a 20-9 lead in the opening frame. An even 14-14 second quarter sent the Horns to the locker room with a 34-23 lead.

    K-State rallied back in the second half trimming the deficit to five points at the 3:33 mark of the third quarter and cut it four points at the 8:57 mark in the fourth. The Longhorns outscored the Wildcats 15-8 over the final eight minutes to put the game away.

    Matharu finished the game 6-of-13 from the floor including a 4-of-7 performance behind the arc. She also dished out three assists and came away with a pair of steals in the win.

    Lauren Ebo led the way on the glass as she brought down a team-high eight rebounds and was second on the team in scoring as she registered 11 points.

    Joanne Allen-Taylor finished with 10 points while Rori Harmon added nine to go along with a team-high four assists.

    Texas forced 15 K-State turnovers in the game, which led to 16 points. Texas committed 12 turnovers on the other end. UT held a 41-29 rebounding advantage in the contest.

    The Longhorns finished the game shooting 36.5 percent (23-of-63) from the field and 41.7 percent (5-of-12) from three-point range.

    K-State finished the game shooting 35.7 percent (15-of-42) from the field and just 18.2 percent (2-of-11) from behind the arc.

    The Wildcats were led offensively by Serena Sundell who finished with 16 points. Ayoka Lee added 10 points.

    The Longhorns return to action on Saturday, Feb. 26, as they play host to TCU inside the Frank Erwin Center. Tip is slated for 7:00 pm CT and will air nationally on Longhorns Network.
